Confucius (Pinyin: Kǒng Zǐ ) is a film biography of the Chinese philosopher Confucius. The film was directed by Hu Mei. The film was released on January 28, 2010 in China and was published on 18 July 2011 in Germany on DVD and Blu -Ray. The rental version already appeared on June 3.

Action

In the Kingdom of Lu, power is divided between the three noble families Jishi, Shushi and Mengshi. The King of Lu decides to invoke the talented mayor Kong Qiu as the new Minister of Justice. As a close adviser to the king, he is able to abolish the ritual of living grave goods. In addition, he achieved the return of three cities through the realm Qi without a fight. He rises to the Home Secretary. However, some members of the three noble families are suspicious of Kong Qiu, why he has to leave the kingdom of Lu and his family.

He draws in the company of his students through various kingdoms and China where he teaches his philosophies. When Lu is attacked by Qi, can the Chancellor of Lu Kong Qiu ask permission to bring his pupil Ran You as general. Kong Qiu lets him go. After Lu wins the battle, the Chancellor, Kong Qiu decided to leave back to his home country. He died in the capital, Qufu.

Production

Production began in March 2009 in the Chinese province of Hebei and the Hengdian World Studios in Zhejiang. The budget was 22 million U.S. dollars.

Faye Wong sang the title song for the film. Her song, entitled "You Lan Cao " ( "幽兰 操" ) is based on the ancient works of Han Yu.

Reception

Christian Hoffmann of the film magazine Cinema gave the film four out of five and described him as " opulent period film ." The only drawback were the CGI effects.
