Congleton (Borough)

Congleton was a District with the status of a borough in the county of Cheshire in England, which was named after the town of Congleton. However, the administrative center was Sandbach. Other important towns were Alsager, Holmes Chapel and Middlewich.

The district was formed on 1 April 1974 and evolved from the merger of the original Borough of Congleton, Alsager and the Urban Districts Middlewich and the Rural Districts Sandbach and Congleton. On 1 April 2009 it was disbanded due to a territorial and administrative reform, and went on in the new unitary authority of Cheshire East.
