Congo Reform Association

The Congo Reform Association (CR A) was founded by Edmund Dene Morel, Roger Casement and Henry Grattan Guinness, to reveal the crimes committed against the Congolese population at the time of private reign of Leopold II, King of the Belgians. It is therefore one of the first human rights organizations.

The Congolese population was forced 1888-1908, degrade rubber in huge quantities. In case of non - fulfillment of the workload, the right hand of the rubber manufacturer was choppy (see Congo atrocities ).

The Congo Reform Association was great public interest around the world, especially in England and the United States. Upon request, the CRA Leopold II sent a commission in the Congo Free State, which dealt with the human rights violations. However, this was set extremely leopoldianisch and glossed over everything in their report.

Achievements

This and the public interest, the Congo Reform Association, especially the Edmund Dene Morel founding member attributed. Even some famous authors joined the protest against the inhuman colonial policy. Sir Arthur Conan Doyle wrote the pamphlet The Crime of the Congo and Mark Twain wrote satire King Leopold's Soliloquy (1905 ).
