Congo shrew

The Congo - shrews ( Congosorex ) are a shrew genus, which occurs in Central and East Africa.

These shrews are similar in physique to the closely related African forest shrews, as their sub- genre they were out earlier. Their fur is brownish in color. Little is known about the habits of these animals, their habitat are rainforests.

There are three types:

  • The Small Congo shrew ( Congosorex verheyeni ) was first described in 2002 and is scientifically known copies of eleven that were found in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and the Central African Republic. This type reaches a body length of about 60 millimeters, a tail length of about 20 millimeters and a weight of around 7 grams.
  • The Great Congo shrew ( Congosorex pollination ) is only known from a single specimen, which was found in the 1950s in the Democratic Republic of Congo. It is slightly larger than C. verheyeni and has a longer tail. The level of danger of this kind is not known, the IUCN lists them under " insufficient data " (data deficient ).
  • Phillips Congo shrew ( Congosorex phillipsorum ) was in 2005 described as a new species. She is in Ndundulu Forest endemic to the Udzungwa Mountains in Tanzania and is IUCN as " critically endangered " ( critically endangered ).
