Congress of Verona

The Verona Congress called a meeting of the Holy Alliance from October 20th to December 14, 1822 as the fourth and last monarch of the congresses. The meeting took place in Verona, which was ruled Austro at that time.

Participants were

  • Emperor Franz I of Austria accompanied by Foreign Minister Klemens Wenzel Lothar von Metternich
  • Accompanied by Karl August von Hardenberg, who dies during the period of the Congress

The Congress refused to recognize the Greek Declaration of Independence.

Against the opposition of England intervention in Spain was declared and France transferred its military implementation. The monarchs wanted the return of the Spanish Bourbons to power. Canning pleaded in this issue for the non-interference in the internal affairs of Spain. The decision adopted yet was the reason for England to secede from the Holy Alliance and 1824 recognize the fallen of Spain South American countries.

It was also agreed to limit the Austrian occupation in Piedmont time and make a troop reductions in Naples.

The Congress of Verona was an expression of increasingly incipient disintegration of the Holy Alliance.

In the entourage of the King of Prussia was among other things, Alexander von Humboldt, who as a cultural-historical leader proved his regent during excursions services.
