Conne Island

The " Conne Iceland " is an alternative youth cultural center in the district of Leipzig Conne wit and houses on its premises a large outdoor skatepark.

The property was built in the second half of the 19th century as a tourist restaurant " icehouse ". In the 1930s it was used as a Hitler Youth home and after 1945 in the GDR as FDJ youth club Erich Zeigner. Although the house since the name " icehouse " officially no longer wore, this name is still common in the population. In the " Conne Iceland " find concert and disco events with artists from the alternative environment of the device instead. Thus, the cultural center is a focal point for the hardcore and punk scene, but also hip-hop, electronic music and metal, in the program again, a performance by the band Mayhem was later published in 1990 under the name Live in Leipzig. In 1992, the first Wave -Gotik-Treffen was held there with about 1500 participants.

On the site, which lies on the edge of the Leipzig floodplain forest, a café is operated with outdoor seating and there are opportunities to play sports. Some rooms are also used by bands as a rehearsal space. Since 2011, the building and the grounds are gradually being modernized. Thus, the previously built wooden skate park was in 2013 replaced by a concrete Bowl.
