Connee Boswell

Constance " Connee " Boswell ( born December 3, 1907 in New Orleans, Louisiana ( USA); † October 11, 1976 in New York) was an American blues and jazz singer and actress.

The vocals of Connee Boswell had great significance for the music and the development of their time. Bessie Smith, Ella Fitzgerald and Enrico Caruso were inspired by his own statement by Boswell. Connee and her sisters Martha and Helvetia ( Vet ) were in turn influenced by the cornetist Emmett Hardy, Ethel Waters and Louis Armstrong. They worked together for a radio station in New Orleans and played mainly classical instrumental pieces. They performed together with The New Orleans Philharmonic Orchestra. Martha wrote a blues, which was sung by Connee published as a record, and laid the foundation for her solo career. The sisters formed a singing group, The Boswell Sisters. They were popularized by his own radio show, but also had guest appearances in Bing Crosby's show and sang at Buckingham Palace before George V.

Boswell was confined to a wheelchair since the age of four by polio, yet she was determined solo singer to be what they are in 1935, after the divergence of the Boswell Sisters, reached. Connee was self-taught, learned to play saxophone, cello and piano. They always came with a lifting mechanism equipped wheelchair on which gave the impression that they would stand. Connee appeared in the Broadway show "Star Time", "Curtain Time" and " Showtime".

She worked up in the 60s mainly for television. Your last song appearance was in 1975 at Carnegie Hall together with the Benny Goodman Orchestra. Boswell was married twice. She died at the age of 68 from cancer.
