Connie Crothers

Connie Crothers ( born 2 May 1941 in Palo Alto, California) is an American pianist and composer of modern jazz.

Connie Crothers received as a young girl and took classical piano lessons at age 12 as a musical prodigy publicly. At 18, she began studying composition at the University of California, Berkeley, however, this study broke off when she noticed that she could not musically express themselves adequately in the language of serialism. Looking for ways to express their creativity, she discovered jazz and studied with Lennie Tristano. In 1972 she appeared for the first time at Carnegie Recital Hall publicly.

It is one of the important figures of improvisers who play in the Tristano tradition, and is co-founder of the Lennie Tristano Jazz Foundation. Crothers worked with a number of jazz musicians like Max Roach, with whom she recorded the duo album Switch ( 1982), and Henry Grimes. Under his own name since the 1970s came a series of solo, duo and quartet recordings with original songs, which was founded by her New Artists label, on which she plays as a soloist, as well as next to Roach Joe Solomon, Roger Mancuso, Richard Tabnik, Richard Twardzik, Lenny Popkin, Cameron Brown, Carol Tristano and Rich Califano participated. She also starred, among others with Lee Konitz, Jemeel Moondoc (Vision Festival 2003) and Roscoe Mitchell. She is also active as a music educator and has a large circle of students.
