Connie Hedegaard

Connie Hedegaard ( born September 15, 1960 in Copenhagen) is a Danish journalist and politician of the Conservative People's Party. Since 2010 she is EU Commissioner for Climate Action in the Barroso Commission II

Life

Hedegaard studied literature and history. She was a member of the Danish Parliament from 1984 to 1990 and again from 2005 to 2010. Meanwhile, she worked as a journalist. In 2004 she was appointed surprising to Environment Minister in the Cabinet of Anders Fogh Rasmussen and held that office until 2007. Then she moved to the climate and energy department until she was appointed on 24 November 2009 on the Special Minister for the UN Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen. She led the first session phase before Prime Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen chaired the final negotiations.

Shortly before the conference Hedegaard was nominated as EU Climate Commissioner in the Barroso II Commission. She took office on 10 February 2010.
