Conrad de Lichtenberg

Conrad III. Lichtenberg (* 1240 in Lichtenberg (Alsace ); † August 1, 1299 in Strasbourg ) was from 1273 to his death bishop of Strasbourg. He was very deserved by its use for the construction of Strasbourg Cathedral. In 1275 he laid the foundation stone for the west facade. During his tenure, the nave was completed. 1277 West work with one of the largest rose windows in Europe was initiated. On the one hand he was very attached to his city, but on the other hand, he also fought for the interests of the House of Habsburg and the expansion of the power of his house Lichtenberg.

In 1299 he wanted his brother- Egino II, Count of Freiburg im Breisgau, rushing in its fight against the rebellious citizens of the city of Freiburg to help. He was severely wounded at the gates of the city (supposedly by a butcher ) that he died on his return to Strasbourg. He was buried in the Strasbourg Cathedral.
