Conrad Hilton
Conrad Nicholson Hilton ( born December 25, 1887 in San Antonio, New Mexico, † January 3, 1979 in Santa Monica, California ) was a famous hotelier.
He was the son of the Norwegian Augustus " Gus" Halvorsen ( Hilton), whose family lived on a farm near Kløfta in the community Ullensaker in the province of Akershus, and Mary Genevive Laufer hamlet, whose father was a merchant from the Hunsrück and came from Dörrebach. In both places are still living relatives of the family. Augustus Halvorsen emigrated 1870 to the USA and took here the name Hilton.
His education was Conrad Hilton at St. Michael's College (now Santa Fe University of Art and Design) and the present-day New Mexico Technology. Later he was a representative of the newly created State of New Mexico.
Conrad Hilton bought the hotel in 1919 Mobley in Cisco, Texas and grew so in the hotel industry. The first self- built Hotel Dallas Hilton opened on August 2, 1925. In 1946 he founded the Hilton Hotel Corporation with worldwide established branches in the high price segment.
Conrad Hilton was married three times, with Mary Adelaide Barron (1925-1934), Zsa Zsa Gabor (1942-1947) and Mary Frances 1976 He and Barron had three sons, Conrad Nicholson Hilton, Jr., called " Nicky " (1926. - 1969), who flew because of indiscipline of a Swiss hotel school and was for nine months of the first husband of Elizabeth Taylor, William Barron Hilton ( born 1927 ) and Eric Michael Hilton ( b. 1932). Conrad and Zsa Zsa have a daughter, Constance Francesca Hilton (born 1947).
With seventy years, Hilton published in 1957 his autobiography, Be My Guest, ( German title: " Conrad Hilton - host to the world with me ").
Conrad Hilton had made it his maxim mitzukonzipieren any Hilton hotel in the world himself. Until his death, there was not a single Hilton, the Conrad Hilton himself not inaugurated.
Conrad Hilton died at the age of 91 years on January 3, 1979 in Santa Monica and was buried at the Calvary Hills Cemetery in Dallas, Texas. The bulk of his fortune he brought to the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation. According to him the luxury hotel chain, Conrad was named hotels.
He is the great-grandfather of Paris and Nicky Hilton.
