Conrad Hilton

Conrad Nicholson Hilton ( born December 25, 1887 in San Antonio, New Mexico, † January 3, 1979 in Santa Monica, California ) was a famous hotelier.

He was the son of the Norwegian Augustus " Gus" Halvorsen ( Hilton), whose family lived on a farm near Kløfta in the community Ullensaker in the province of Akershus, and Mary Genevive Laufer hamlet, whose father was a merchant from the Hunsrück and came from Dörrebach. In both places are still living relatives of the family. Augustus Halvorsen emigrated 1870 to the USA and took here the name Hilton.

Conrad Hilton bought the hotel in 1919 Mobley in Cisco, Texas and grew so in the hotel industry. The first self- built Hotel Dallas Hilton opened on August 2, 1925. In 1946 he founded the Hilton Hotel Corporation with worldwide established branches in the high price segment.
