Conrad I, Duke of Swabia

Conrad I, who also appeared as Kuno von Oehningen, († August 20 997) from the House of Conradines was Duke of Swabia from 983 to 997 According to a post-dated deed he had founded the monastery Oehningen 965. The accuracy is not backed up so far (1966 ), but not refuted.

Life

Konrad was probably married to Reginlint, who was a daughter of the Duke of Swabia Liudolf from the family of Liudolfinger and thus a granddaughter of Emperor Otto I by an isolated opinion.

After the Swabian duke Otto I, 982 on a campaign in Italy unmarried, childless and died unexpectedly, occupied Emperor Otto II the duchy of Swabia with Conrad I, probably his brother, and once again with a Franconia and probably a distant relative of former Duke Hermann I..

The establishment of the loyal to the emperor Konrad was documented 983 on the court day in Verona; he and his followers were " dux Alemannorum et Alsatiorum " (such as or " Duke of Swabia and Alsace " in a royal charter of 988 ), called Strasbourg was considered as their capital ( " caput Ducatus " ), the focus of the dominion shifted down significantly north.

Konrad was the first Duke of Swabia, who managed to keep the title in the family: Hermann II was his son, Hermann III. his son, Ernst I the son of Hermann II and Ernst II and IV Sons of Hermann Ernst I, so that now for more than fifty years for the first time something like dynastic continuity revealed - even if not planned by the incumbent.
