Conrad is a city in the U.S. state of Montana, United States and the administrative seat of Pondera County.

Conrad lives mainly from agriculture. The city area includes settlements of the Hutterites.

Geography

Conrad is located in northwest Montana near the eastern slope of the Rocky Mountain Front, a mountain range at the transition from the Great Plains to the Rocky Mountains. Through the city Interstate 15, which runs from the Canadian border to San Diego runs. The metropolitan area has a size of 3.24 km ².

In 2010, the population was 2,570.

History

Conrad was born when in 1901 moved the Great Norterhn Railway tracks, in which the city was built. It was named after WG and CE Conrad, the owners of a large ranch and organizers of the Pondera Canal Company, a forerunner of today's irrigation system in the area around Conrad.

The city grew quickly thanks to the agriculture, to Conrad had in 1916 1.500 inhabitants. Then the expansion slowed due to drought. Only in 1926 was over the dry season and a year later, Conrad was by the discovery of oil continue to develop.

Apart from agriculture and oil production in the past have shaped the industry in Conrad and flax mills and a brickyard.
