Consort Ban

Ban Jieyu (Chinese班 婕妤, Pinyin Bān Jieyu, lady- Ban '; * 48 BC, † probably 6 BC) was a Chinese poet and lover of the Han emperor Cheng.

She bore the emperor two sons, but both died in infancy. In the year 18 BC accused her rivals Zhao Fei Ya and Zhao Heda Ban Jieyu and Empress Xu, witchcraft, whereupon Xu was rejected by Cheng. Ban Jieyu decided, although Cheng gave her grace to be no longer his mistress, and was maid of honor at his mother Wang Zhengjun. This probably had a very good opinion of her: It is narrated that they should have compared with Fan Ji Ban Jieyu.

The most famous poem is probably Ban Jieyu The subjects in the fall. It was after their displacement by the Zhao sisters. In the poem she compares with a fan which is thrown away after the end of the summer.
