Conspiracy of One is the sixth studio album by the American punk rock band The Offspring. It was released on 14 November 2000 at Columbia Records and is the successor of 1998's successful album Americana.

Genesis

After the huge success of its predecessor Americana (1998), the band recorded the album Conspiracy of One June to August 2000 in the NRG Studios in Hollywood, California with producer Brendan O'Brien. Thus ended The Offspring collaboration with Dave Jerden, who was responsible for production at Americana and Ixnay on the Hombre. For Dexter Holland was O'Brien's production for Pearl Jam and Stone Temple Pilots crucial to take him on board for the album.

In mid-2000 the band gave a reputation for providing the album before its release for free download. After Sony Music announced legal action, however, the band moved away from this project. In October 2000, but it still was a leak and eleven of the twelve songs from the finished album was uploaded to Napster. A fan offered these songs then together with guitars and bass handles even before the album's release on 14 November 2000 for free download.

The band had nothing to do with it, however. Instead, they offered downloads singles through their website, as well as various portals such as MTV Online on. In return, the British retail chain HMV took the first single Original Prankster not in their assortment and justified this by saying that the piece " already before the publication was available " was. Reception

The reviews are almost universally to settle only in the upper midfield. It was agreed that the band still do their thing well, but would be given no room for experimentation or changes.

Conspiracy of One reached in over ten countries the top ten of the charts, but failed to match the success of its predecessor Americana.
