Constance Dowling

Constance Dowling ( born July 24, 1920 in New York City; † 28 October 1969 in Los Angeles, California ) was an American actress.

Career

She gave in 1944 in Up in Arms her film debut. The first major role was in 1946 in Forgotten hour. This was followed in 1947 and 1949 your wonderful lie When love dies. In 1950, she turned to the side of Gina Lollobrigida in Miss Italy. From the early 1950s, Dowling was only seen in television productions. In 1955 she finally withdrew completely from acting.

In addition to her films Constance Dowling is known for her relationships. In the 1940s, Dowling had an affair with the film director Elia Kazan in New York. After the latter had rejected a separation from his wife, Dowling returned to Hollywood. The Italian poet and novelist, Cesare Pavese, she had a relationship that she ended in 1950 without giving reasons. Pavese who does not coped with the separation, then committed suicide in August of that year in a Turin hotel suicide. On the desk of his hotel room a number of unpublished poems were found, including perhaps his most famous work " Verra la morte e Avra i tuoi occhi ", which is dedicated to Dowling. From 1955 until her death Dowling was married with producer Ivan Tors. The couple had four sons.

Constance Dowling died in 1969 of heart failure.
