Constantin C. Giurescu

Constantin C. Giurescu ( born October 26, 1901 in Focsani, † November 13, 1977 ) was a Romanian historian and university professor.

Life

The son of the historian Konstantin Giurescu was born in 1901 in Focsani. After attending primary and secondary school, he studied in Bucharest and then in Paris. From 1920 to 1926 Giurescu was an assistant at the National Museum of Antiquities in Bucharest. On February 15, 1927 his son was born later historian Dinu C. Giurescu. In the same year he became director of the ion Bratiano Foundation. In the interwar period he acted with the socio-political reforms as a politician. He was also a founder of the " Revistei istorice române " and " Institutului de Istorie Naţională ". Furthermore Giurescu was a member of the Romanian Academy and professor at the University of Bucharest. The historian of medieval and early modern southern European history was in the period 1950-1955 prisoner in the prison of Sighet. His prison memoirs were published later. Giurescu died at the age of 76 years.

Honors

In 1971 he was awarded the Order " Meritul Ştiinţific ".
