Constantine, Prince of Hohenzollern-Hechingen

Friedrich Wilhelm Konstantin of Hohenzollern- Hechingen Thassilo Hermann ( born February 16, 1801 Castle Sagan, Lower Silesia, † September 3, 1869 at Schloss Polish Nettkau Grünberg, Silesia ) was the last (ninth ) and third sovereign Prince of Hohenzollern - Hechingen.

Life

Constantine was the only child of Prince Friedrich of Hohenzollern- Hechingen (1776-1838) from his marriage to Princess Pauline Biron of Courland ( 1782-1845 ). He headed for the ill-health of his father since 1834 the government business and took over the government in 1838.

By the death of Dorothea von Sagan, his mother's sister, he was in 1842 also Duke of Sagan. Together with the related line of Hohenzollern -Sigmaringen, he renounced as a result of the riots of 1848 (see also: Revolution in Sigmaringen ) by agreement dated 7 December 1849, government and left, subject to the rights of a sovereign prince, his principality to the head of the Hohenzollern house, the King of Prussia, against an annuity of 10,000 thalers. Since then he has lived with the prerogatives of a posthumous prince of the Prussian royal family to Lowenberg in Silesia, where he particularly cared for the music and held a noble chapel.

The financial sponsors, he was instrumental in the founding of the General German Musikverein. This had to bring the purpose, newer and seldom heard older larger Tonwerke for performance and so to a certain extent for the living composer to be what are the exhibitions of paintings for the living painter. The Association held in 1859 to mark the 25th anniversary of the Neue Zeitschrift für Musik in Leipzig his first general meeting.

Marriages and descendants

Constantine was married to the Princess Eugénie de Beauharnais (1808-1847), whom he married on 22 May 1826 in Eichstätt, and after her death ( September 1847 ) since 1850 morganatic with Amalie ( 1832-1897 ), daughter of barons Charles Frederick Schenk von Geyern, which was charged by the King of Prussia, Countess of Rothenburg. By his second wife he had the following children:

  • Friedrich Wilhelm Karl (* February 19, 1856; † August 23, 1912 ), Count of Rothenburg
  • Wilhelm (1861-1929), Count of Rothenburg ∞ May 6, 1894 Countess Dohna - Schlodien (* April 21, 1873, † 18 June 1959 ) daughter of Adolf Dohna - Schlodien

In addition, he left a daughter born out of wedlock with Sophie Scherer ::

  • Ludovica Sophia ( * August 24, 1824, † May 12 1884 ) ∞ May 30th, 1842 Rudolf Gfrörer Ehrenburg (* July 3, 1820, † 1899)

Since the sons ( Earl of Rothenburg ) were not entitled to inherit from his second marriage, went the princely line of Hohenzollern - Hechingen with Constantine's death and was succeeded by Hohenzollern - Sigmaringen.
