Constitution of Luxembourg

The Constitution of Luxembourg is the central force, legal and political basic order of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, where the law of the country is committed. The now valid legal text goes back to its first constitutional adoption on 17 October 1868 which is still valid, although modified several times, but. The last amendment to the Constitution on March 12, 2009.

The original constitution was promulgated on 12 October 1841 came into force on January 1, 1842 and was amended on 20 March 1848 and again on 27 November 1856. The Constitution of 1868 marked a radical change in their design, because it was previously only from changes in the original Constitution.

Disputes to Constitutional Justice ( Contrôle de constitutionnalité ) are heard by the Constitutional Court of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg ( Cour Constitution Nelle ).

Construction

Today's Constitution consists of 120 articles, which are divided into 11 chapters. It describes what the country determines the rights and freedoms of its citizens have and how power is distributed in the state.
