Constitution Party (Egypt)

The Constitution Party (Arabic حزب الدستور, DMG Hizb ad - dustūr, abbreviation DP) is a political party in Egypt. It is headed by former IAEA Director General Mohamed ElBaradei.

The party was founded on 28 April 2012 by Mohammed el- Baradei, the former director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency and winner of the Nobel Peace Prize, as well as a group of Egyptian intellectuals and activists of the National Association for Change. El -Baradei intends to enlarge the party base for the next election in four years. The Constitution Party aims to unite all Egyptians irrespective of faith and ideology behind democracy. ElBaradei hopes that the party mainly attracts young people who were behind the revolution that overthrew President Hosni Mubarak.

The Constitution Party is with the Social Democratic Party in a discussion about an alliance of both parties, the Justice Party was negotiated by a union.

Successor to Mohammed el- Baradei in the party chairmanship is the Copt Hala Schukrallah. Schukrallah is the first female party leader of a political party in Egypt and occurs as a presidential candidate for the Constitution Party in the presidential elections of 2014.
