Constitutional Court of Kosovo

The Constitutional Court of the Republic of Kosovo (Albanian Gjykata Kushtetuese e Republikës së Kosovës, Serbian Cyrillic Ústavní Sud Republike Kosovo) was established in January 2009, about a year after the Declaration of Independence of the Republic of Kosovo on 17 February 2008. The nine judges of the Constitutional Court on selected proposal of the President of Kosovo by the Parliament. The competences of the Constitutional Court shall be governed by the Constitution of Kosovo.

The court is based in the capital, Pristina. The term of office of a Constitutional Court judge is limited to six years.

Formation

The new political developments in Kosovo was established the Working Group on the establishment of the Constitutional Court in May 2008, which was approved by the then President Fatmir Sejdiu and Prime Minister Hashim Thaci. Chairman of this working group was to December Arsim Bajrami, Minister for Public Services. In addition, this group had around 16 other members, to which, inter alia, John Allelo USAID belonged.
