Consultative Assembly of Oman

The Consultative Assembly ( Majlis al - Shura Arabic ) with 83 elected members of the legislature of the Sultanate of Oman, the legislative power, however, lies solely with the Sultan Qaboos bin Said.

The Monarch also makes the final selection decisions and may reject election results. In Oman, Political parties are not allowed. Only non-attached candidate can be selected. Is elected according to a proportional system. Provinces with more than 30,000 inhabitants send two delegates, smaller elect a delegate. The second chamber is the National Assembly ( Majlis al - Dawla ).

So far, there were the following legislative periods:

The acting chairman in 2012, was Khalid bin Hilal bin Nasir al mawali.

On March 13, 2011 Sultan Qaboos bin Said initiated a decree which gave legislative and regulatory powers to the Parliament.
