Conte (Jura)

Conte is a commune in the French department of Jura in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Conte is located 695 m above sea level. M., about seven kilometers east of the city Champagnole (air line). The farming village extends in the Jura, at the edge of a plateau east of the Val de Sirod, above the valley of the Ain.

The area of ​​3.32 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the French Jura. The main part of the territory occupied by the high surface area of ​​contention, the average at 730 m above sea level. The river rises in the wooded valley between Conte and Nozeroy with a karst spring (Vaucluse - type). History

In the Middle Ages Conte, which was then called himself Comte, to the dominion of Chateau - Vilain belonged. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 to France.

Attractions

The Chapel of Conte was built in the 18th century. Among the natural attractions include the source of the Ain ( Source de l' Ain) and located in the valley below Saut - of - Maillis.

Population

With 60 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Conte is one of the smallest towns in the Jura. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1886 116 people were still counted ), only small fluctuations were recorded since the early 1960s.

Conte was well into the 20th century, a predominantly coined by agriculture, especially dairy farming and livestock village.
