The Continental Bulldog is not recognized by the FCI breed of dog from Switzerland, which is recognized by the SKG at national level.

Origin and History

When at the beginning of the 21st century in Switzerland began the discussion on stricter animal laws and discipline provisions that should be " ... the creation and keeping of animals with specific characteristics, in particular abnormalities in physique and behavior " prohibit, Imelda Angehrn decided in spring 2001 to undertake a breeding attempt to generate a medium-sized Bulldog, which should meet all required by the animal welfare conditions in a healthy dog ​​. In the summer of 2001 coincided with the approval of the Swiss Kennel Club (SKG ) the first intersection throw English Bulldog x Olde English Bulldog. These dogs were then led under the name Pickwick Bulldogs Old Type ( PBOT ).

It quickly became apparent that a backcross in the English Bulldog because of the rejection by the standard imaging Breeders' Association in England was not possible. However, the breeding program itself was a success: the intersections showed that the attempt to improve the health situation of English Bulldogs, resulted in the creation of a new breed that comes very close to the original type of the Bulldogs. From representatives of the Working Committee for breeding development and promotion of the breed SKG, a project group working towards the recognition of a new Bulldog breed was formed. Were evaluated by a veterinarian and judges and applies to register in the appendix register of the Swiss Stud Book (LOS ) more than 70 dogs.

Thereafter, the Central Committee of the SKG had to deal with this project. On 15 September 2004 the application for recognition of the new race, in order to distinguish from the English Bulldog under the name Continental Bulldog, granted. The decisions and actions to the formation of the new race were made ​​in consultation with the Fédération Cynologique Internationale (FCI ). The Continental Bulldog is, if he is satisfied the required conditions of the FCI and recognized as a new breed, are a Swiss breed. On 5 December 2004, the Continental Bulldog Club Switzerland ( CBCS ) was founded. On 24 January 2011 the application for recognition of the breed has been filed with the FCI.

Description

The Continental Bulldog is an athletic built, bulldog -like but more flexible dog. He is according to Standard max. 46 cm tall and up to 30 kg. The head is much less massive than the English Bulldog, with less wrinkles and a distinct stop. The undershot bite is not as pronounced. The neck is short and strong. His legs are stocky, with the front legs are much closer together than in the English Bulldog. The coat is short and dense, smooth, with or without undercoat. All colors in combination with black nose are allowed: Plain or combined with white, with or without a black mask.
