Contraband (Big Band)

The Contraband is a Dutch Big Band Modern Creative Jazz. It was founded and led by the Dutch trombonist Willem van Manen.

Band History

The Contraband was designed by van Manen only as an international group. Over the years, the cast changed several times. In the period of its existence the Contraband were over 300 concerts. The band played mostly in the Netherlands, but also occurred in Germany, Belgium, France and Switzerland.

Music

The band played mostly original compositions of its members. The compositions allow the player plenty of room for improvisation, the set depending on piece harmoniously and in tempo or is free.
