Prehistory

The first was Cobus - developed by the body shop Hess and FBW for the Zurich airport and taken into operation in 1978 - even without the use of this brand name. The vehicle had a welded -aluminum body. The chassis consisted of a power head with it slung front- engine, which worked on the front axle, as well as a rolling stool for the passenger compartment. The concept not only impressed the Zurich airport, but also Jürgen Kamps, the current Managing Director of the company contracting. So it was on 30 November 1989 to conclude an agreement between Hess and the Contrac, which transferred the rights for worldwide distribution and installation of Buskits to contracting. Also one of the party was the Portuguese manufacturer Salvador Caetano, in which the buses were assembled. At that time, Hess had already developed the second Gereration airport buses with a bolted aluminum body with the patented CO -BOLT system, and FBW was now gone up in NAW. Contrac gave the airport buses also the brand name Cobus, which was already used from the first license delivery.
