Control-L

Control -L, CTRL -L or LANC ( for Logic Application Control Bus System or Local Application Control Bus System) is the name of a control protocol for video cameras and some digital cameras that can be found in cameras from Sony, Canon and JVC.

There is a serial, bidirectional protocol can be transmitted with the data to and from the camera to send commands to the camera and retrieve status information. Most common implementation of the connection is a 2.5 mm jack that can be connected by means of a three-pole cable with a LANC remote control. Formerly a mini - DIN connector ( adapters exist and can even be built ) was used with 5 to Poland. Unique compact video cameras also use other complex connections (eg "AV Out" / " AV connector " on newer Sony camcorders ), in addition to LANC contain contacts, eg for headphones, microphone video signals or electricity, and ( eg in the Sony DCR- PC7E the adapter VMC- LM7 ) must be used with an adapter. The connection is, for example, Sony also called " mini A / V Remote" and in recent years has been standardized with Sony on a 10 -pin circular connector.

The LANC protocol is very rich. It contains inter alia commands:

  • Zooming at various speeds
  • Record On / Off
  • Switching Video-/Fotofunktion
  • Auto focus on / off
  • Set Manual Focus
  • Backlight Correction
  • The VCR cameras in playback functions
  • Status of Camera Batteries
  • Status of the remaining tape length

Not all cameras support all functions.

Typical applications for LANC controls are rear camera controls (mostly on the handle of the tripod mounted Eiger ), underwater housing, remote control of cameras and synchronization of cameras, for example, to take stereoscopically by exactly simultaneous triggering of two cameras.
