Control Yuan

The Control Yuan (Chinese监察院/监察院, Pinyin Jiancha yuan) is one of the five Yuan (Council of State ) of the Republic of China on Taiwan in Taipei and is a monitoring authority of the government. There are also Yuan for the legislative, executive, judiciary and the exam. As an authority within the meaning of the separation of powers of the Control Yuan is comparable to the European Court of Auditors or the Government Accountability Office of the United States.

The end of 2004, then-President Chen Shui -bian sent a list of the Control Yuan candidates to the Legislative Yuan for confirmation. The opposition pan- blue coalition, which had the majority in the Legislative Yuan had rejected this request and called for a new list of candidates. This blocking made the Control Yuan since February 2005 inoperable because it had no members. After the election of President Ma Ying- jeou, of the pan-blue coalition, a new candidate lists by the Legislative Yuan was confirmed in July 2008 and restored the working capacity of the control of Yuan.
