Geography

Contwig Schwarzbach is located in Palatinate in the region and is bordered to the west by the city of Zweibrücken.

The municipality is divided into the districts Contwig and Stambach. The hamlet Contwig includes the residential places Dudelbingerhof, Gödel Steinhofgründe, Heckenaschbacherhof, Mühlbachhof, Offweilerhof, Rupp Thalerhofstraße, Steitzhof, Truppacherhof, Wahlbacherhof and Werderhof.

History

Contwig was first mentioned in 1237. Although several Herleitungstheorien of the place name exist (among others is also of Celtic origin suspected), the official website of the municipality refers to the emergence of Conradus vicus, so the village of Conrad. However, the church should already have been established for about 750 monks of the monastery of Hornbach.

The present municipality was formed on 7 June 1969 by recharge from the previously independent municipalities Contwig and Stambach.

The local council in Contwig consists of 20 council members, who were elected at the municipal election held on 7 June 2009 in a personalized proportional representation, and the honorary mayor as chairman.

Coat of arms

The blazon is: " Azure, a love knot ( Endacht ) intricate golden rope with knotted ends, above and below accompanied by two silver roses with golden slugs and green sepals, the lower overthrown ( with the sepal facing up). "

The coat of arms was granted in 1983 by the District Government of Rheinhessen-Pfalz.

Music

There is a marching band and a youth orchestra of VT Contwig.

Sports

Biggest club in Contwig is the United Turnerschaft Contwig 1888 eV with over 900 members. Local football club is the SV Palatia Contwig. The name of the club derives from the Latin for Palatinate.

Between 1969 and 1971 a heated outdoor pool was built.

Regular events

The village festival takes place at intervals of three years, alternating with Stambach place, whereby a year is then exposed. Kirmes is the second weekend in September. Stambach celebrated its 700th anniversary in 2007.

Traffic

About the Federal Highway 8 ( Perl Pirmasens ) Contwig is connected to the national road network, not only in Germany but also to Luxembourg. Zweibrücken Airport is nearby. In addition, the community has with the station Contwig and a halt in the district Stambach two stops on the train line Landau -Rohrbach.

Schools and kindergartens

Contwig has a primary school, primary school Contwig. There is also the opportunity to visit the comprehensive school Contwig. In addition to two Catholic kindergartens, of which one is located in the district of Stambach, but there is the evangelical kindergarten.
