Conventional PCI#Mini PCI

Mini PCI is the miniature of the Peripheral Component Interconnect bus. It is designed for notebooks, laptops and other small devices such as routers and embedded systems. Nowadays find mini PCI cards mainly for wireless LAN use. The Mini - PCI interface is just like the conventional PCI interface accessible only by opening the device, is therefore preferred for many tasks PCMCIA. Except for some differences Mini PCI corresponds to the PCI standard version 2.2. :

  • Mini PCI has significantly smaller dimensions ( 6.0 × 4.6 × 0.5 cm),
  • The use of standard - sideband signals and audio communication,
  • Support for CLKRUN # statements,
  • No support for JTAG signals and 64 -bit extensions as in the conventional PCI.

There are different types of Mini PCI cards (IA / B, II A / B, III A / B), which differ slightly in form and function.

The last type ( 59.6 x 44.6 mm) is the most common A for installed wireless cards in laptops. These cards fit into the same broad IIIA jacks ( 59.6 x 50.95 mm). Conversely (lower map into a small card receiving ) it is not natural.

Successor to the Mini - PCI cards are much smaller ( 50.95 mm x 30 mm) cards with the name of Mini PCI Express and mini- PCI -e or even PCI - Express.
