Conventional wisdom

Idées reçues referred to in the French literature uncritically adopted, ducted in formulaic phrases prejudices. Often concerned about fashion effects, they are an expression philistine platitudes and ultimately human stupidity.

The French novelist Gustave Flaubert (1821-1880) compiled a "catalog of opinions chic", under the title " Le Dictionnaire des idées reçues ". Work on it he probably began around 1850. Whether but the work in the unfinished novel Bouvard and Pécuchet ( published posthumously in 1881 ) should take is unclear in research. After Flaubert's intention he should be designed to " que le lecteur ne sache pas si on se fout de lui oui ou non".
