Conviasa

Conviasa is a Venezuelan airline based in Maiquetia and based on the Caracas airport.

History

Conviasa was founded on 30 March 2004 and participated in the 28 November 2004 the flight operation. It belongs to 80 percent of the Government of Venezuela and 20 percent of the regional government of the state of Nueva Esparta. Your name is an acronym for the Spanish Consorcio Venezolano de Industrias y Servicio Aéreo Aeronáuticas.

In April 2012, Conviasa has been included in the list of operating bans for the airspace of the European Union due to safety concerns. In July 2013 this ban was lifted, Conviasa since then must perform flights in the EU again.

In August 2013 Conviasa looked at as one of the last operators of this subtype of their only Airbus A340 -200.

Destinations

Conviasa operates in addition to several destinations within Venezuela's internationally well Bogotá, Dominica ( subject to time ), Buenos Aires, Havana, Port of Spain, San Vicente ( subject to time) and Grenada in Central or South America, and currently the only long-haul destinations Madrid and Damascus (currently suspended).

Incidents

Conviasa recorded in their history two aircraft losses, which also each death casualties were:

  • On August 30, 2008, a Boeing 737-200 of Conviasa crashed with the identifier YV102T when landing Latacunga in Ecuador. The aircraft was coming from Caracas on a ferry flight and collided presumably due to the disregard of regulations of the approach procedure by the pilots with the volcano Illiniza. All three people on board - the crew - were killed.
  • On September 13, 2010, an ATR 42-300 of Conviasa crashed with the identifier YV1010 on the Conviasa Flight 2351 from Puerto Ordaz to Porlamar with 51 passengers on board shortly after the start, in the accident, 17 people died. After an emergency message, the crew had tried to return to the airport of Puerto Ordaz. However, as eyewitnesses, the plane touched while a high voltage power line and crashed into a factory.
