Convict Lake
The Convict Lake ( German: Sträflingssee ) is a lake in the Sherwin Range region in the Sierra Nevada in California. The lake is surrounded by striking mountains and is for recreational fishing is a popular destination. It is drained by the Convict Creek.
Origin of the name
An escaped from the prison in Carson City Group of convicts was sought by a party led by Sheriff Robert Morrison. The troop met in 1871 at Convict Creek on the convicts, where Morrison was killed; of direct lakefront Mount Morrison was named after him. The lake got its name also due to this incident.

- Leading the naming incident was filmed in 1951 in the movie "The Secret of Convict Lake ".
- The lake was used as a filming location for the movie Star Trek: Insurrection.
