Cooley Distillery

The Cooley Distillery was until December 2011 as the only independent whiskey distillery in Ireland. It was founded in 1987 by John Teeling in Riverstown.

History

John Teeling bought a former State potato schnapps distillery on the Cooley peninsula on the east coast of Ireland. This was converted in less than two years in a distillery with two Distillen - a distillery after the Pot Still process, the other after the patent Still process.

In 1988 Willie McCarter, a fellow student at Harvard Teeling, its Andrew A. Watt Distillery (founded 1762, County Derry, Northern Ireland) with Cooley together. Cooley then bought another brand which John Locke and Co. (founded in 1757, Kilbeggan ), the oldest licensed distillery in the world possibly. On their site, the fires are stored to mature.

1998 Cooley received the trophy at the International Wine and Spirit Competition ( IWSC ) for outstanding achievements. Reason: "This award to Cooley is a sign that the quality of Irish whiskey is really perceived. The distillery was founded in County Louth in 1987, Cooley produces a range of blended and single malt whiskeys drawn up an impressive reputation and led the jury to award for the first time in the history of the competition trophy to a distillery. "

In December 2011, Cooley was purchased by Jim Beam for 95 million U.S. $.

Beginning of 2014 it was announced that the Japanese beverage company Suntory Beam Global will buy up until the second quarter of the year. This means that the Cooley's brands would include the portfolio of Suntory.
