Cooley Peninsula

Geographical location

The Cooley Peninsula (English Cooley Peninsula, Irish: Cuaille, Old Irish: Cuailnge ) is a hilly peninsula in County Louth, which is formed in the northwest of Carlingford Lough, which also forms the border with County Down in Northern Ireland. In the South, Dundalk Bay is located.

The highest point is Slieve Foy, who is also the highest peak in County Louth with 588 m.

In the Irish- Celtic mythology Cooley was the home of Donn Cuailnge, a brown bull, and the scene of the Táin Bó Cuailnge. Remember a dolmen and a wedge tomb, both near Ballymascanlon.
