Cooper County, Missouri

The Cooper County is a county located in the U.S. state of Missouri. In 2010, the County had 17 601 inhabitants and a population density of 12 inhabitants per square kilometer. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Boonville, which was according to Daniel M. and Nathan Boone, sons of Daniel Boone, who were active in the area in the salt business here named.

Geography

The County is located north-west of the geographical center of Missouri on the south bank of the Missouri River. It has an area of 1477 square kilometers, of which 13 square kilometers are water surface. At the Cooper County borders the following Nachbarcountys:

History

The Cooper County was formed on December 17, 1818 from parts of Howard County. It was named after Sars Hall Cooper, who was killed in 1814 by Indians.
