Coosa County, Alabama
The Coosa County is a county located in the state of Alabama in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Rockford.
A little fame Coosa County by Adalius Thomas, linebacker of the New England Patriots and Justin Tuck, defensive end of the New York Giants, both of which were in the 2008 Super Bowl.
Geography
The County is located just east of the geographic center of Alabama has an area of 1726 square kilometers, of which 36 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Clay County, Tallapoosa County, Elmore County, Chilton County, Shelby County and Talladega County.
History
Coosa County was formed on December 18, 1832 from parts of Montgomery County and from the land of the Creek Indians. It was named for the Coosa River, which forms the western boundary of the County at the same time.

According to the census of 2000, there were 12,202 people in Coosa County. Of these, 392 people were living in collective centers, the other residents living in 4,682 households and 3,408 families. The population density was 7 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made up of 63.94 percent White, 34.19 percent Black or African American, 0.32 percent Native American, 0.04 percent Asian, 0.01 percent of residents from the Pacific Islander, and 0.62 percent from other races groups; 0.88 percent were descended from two or more races. 1.29 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 4,682 households out of which 30.0 percent have children under the age of 18 living with them. In 54.8 percent lived married couples living together, 13.5 percent were single mothers, 27.2 percent were non-families, 24.3 percent of all households were single-person households and 9.8 percent had someone living alone at the age of 65 years or above. The average household size was 2.52 and the average family size was 2.98.
23.7 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 8.6 percent between 18 to 24, 29.0 percent between 25 and 44, 24.3 percent between 45 and 64 and 14.4 percent were 65 years or older. The average age was 38 years. For every 100 females there were 104.4 males and females age 18 and over, there 102.5 males.
The median income for a household was $ 29,873, and the median income for a family $ 36,082. Males had a median income of $ 25,390, women $ 18,171. The per capita income was $ 14,875. 11.8 percent of families and 14.9 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
