Content

Cop appeared in 1984 as an LP on the label K.422 and K.422 was published in 1992 parallel to and on Young God CD. In the CD version, the remastered album was first added to the Young God EP and 1999 in addition to the albums Greed and Holy Money. All releases include the note, the album was for it, " created to be played at maximum volume " ( "designed to be played at maximum volume" ).

On the Swans Cop exacerbated the style of their debut album Filth (1983 ) by taking up an even slower pace and more loops of old tapes to produce an even more aggressive and raw sound. Lyrically, this album is also tinged political: The title track cop turns in an aggressive and sarcastic manner against violence and feelings of superiority to the police. In the early phase of the Swans it happened thanks to the extreme volume of their performances that the police broke concerts of them and broke up.

According to Jarboe, who only joined to the next album Greed about the band, shows the blurry photo in the middle of the cover of a close-up profile of an extremely obese woman.

Reception

Allmusic awarded four out of five stars on the album. The magazine Forced Exposure praised in the summer of 1985, the brutal sound of the plate:

" Just a ugly ecstatic animus enough raw spiritual electricity to bring this plate EXPLODED to even the largest manic-depressive alive and conscious through Christmas AND New Year. I'm overwhelmed, bowled and on my old rump fallen through the exquisite / horrific whirlwind of emotion and acoustic excess. "
