Copiah County, Mississippi

Copiah County is a county located in the U.S. state of Mississippi. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Hazlehurst, which was named after George Hazlehurst, an engineer of the railway.

History

The Copiah County was formed on January 21, 1823 from parts of Hinds County. It was named after an Indian word that translates Screaming Panter.
