Copiapó River

Río Copiapó is a river in northern Chile in the Atacama region.

The Río Copiapó arises in the Präkordillieren the Andes by the confluence of three major rivers, the Río Manflas, Rio Rio Jorquera and Pulido.

It flows through the middle of the extremely dry Atacama desert. Only its banks are fertile and used for intensive agriculture, especially for wine. On the banks of the Río Copiapó Copiapó at the Parque Pretil is a forest and small zoo.

The river flows near Angostura Porto Viejo in the Pacific Ocean.

History

Already in pre-Hispanic times lived Diaguita in the Copiapó Valley. 40 km southeast of Tierra Amarilla, the small Inca Palace of La Puerta is located at Los Loros.

On June 4, 1536 conquistador Diego de Almagro reached the Copiapó Valley.
