Coppa Italia (ice hockey)

The Coppa Italia is the national ice hockey cup competition in Italy. It was played for the first time in 1973 and is held annually since 2000. Joint record winner are the HC Bolzano, Asiago HC Milano Vipers and with three titles.

History

The first two editions of the Coppa Italia won the SG Cortina in 1973 and 1974. Subsequently, the competition was held in 1991 and 1998 two more times before it takes place every year since the 2000 /01 season.

Mode

Initially varied the discharge mode, the Coppa Italia from year to year. Mostly, however, were the top four team in the Serie A1 in a tournament in December against each other.

Since the 2006/07 season all teams of the Series A1 and Series A2 compete against each other, with the Cup games take place spread over the whole year.
