Copper-Roof Palace

The palace under the tin roof (Polish Pałac pod blacha ) is a late baroque palace in Warsaw from the 17th century. It is located in close proximity to the Royal Castle on the Vistula embankment. Dar palace is named after the material of its roof, because it was the first building in Warsaw, which was a tin roof instead of a shingle roof.

History

The palace was built by the magnate Lubomirski family from 1698 to 1701. In the 18th century it served the Warsaw Masonic Lodge. At present, the reign of Stanislaus Augustus Poniatowski lived Józef Antoni Poniatowski his nephew in the palace. The palace was destroyed in 1944 after the Warsaw uprising of the German Wehrmacht. The reconstruction was carried out from 1948 to 1949 according to the views of Canaletto.
