Corcelles (Ain)

Corcelles is a commune in the French department of Ain, in the Rhône -Alpes.

Geography

Corcelles is located at 850 m above sea level. M., seven kilometers north-northwest of Hauteville- Lompnes and about 19 ​​km east-northeast of the city Ambérieu -en- Bugey (air line). The village is located in the central Bugey, on the western edge of a broad valley of the high Jura, which belongs to the Plateau d' Hauteville, at the foot of the Cret de Chatillon.

History

The remains of a Gallic pottery as well as a Bronze Age burial site indicate an early settlement. Is first documented in the 12th century as Corcelles possession of the Counts of Savoy. The place name comes from the Latin word Corticella ( small yard ). In the 13th century a small priory was founded in Cleon, which was of the Blyes monastery dependent. The Treaty of Lyon Corcelles arrived in 1601 to France.

Attractions

The Gothic village church Saint -Martin was built in the 14th century and restored in the 17th and 18th centuries and remodeled. In the Middle Ages Corcelles was attached; of the former walls are still visible remains.

Population

With 248 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Corcelles one of the small communities of the department of Ain. Economy and infrastructure

Corcelles was until well into the 20th century a predominantly coined by agriculture, especially dairy farming and livestock village. Even today, the inhabitants live on the merits of the activity in the first sector. Outside of the primary sector, there are few jobs in the village.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares on a secondary road that leads from Vieu - d'Izenave after Champdor. Further road links exist with Aranc and Brénod. The nearest links to the A40 motorway is located at a distance of around 15 kilometers.
