The City of Corcoran in Kings County ( California) is best known for her two correctional facilities:

  • California State Prison Corcoran (CSP - COR), scheduled for 3116 prisoners, actually occupied with 4851 passengers (as of 31 July 2011), 2322 employees, annual operating expenses $ 274 million (2008/ 2009),
  • California Substance Abuse Treatment Facility and State Prison, Corcoran ( SATF -CSP, Corcoran ), scheduled for 3424 prisoners, actually occupied with 6335 passengers (as of 31 July 2011), 1925 employees, annual operating expenses $ 148 million (2008 /2009).

A total of 11 186 inmates are considered residents of the city. In September 2007, the two institutions had had together still 13144 inmates, representing more than half of the then population of 25417 people. With 4247 employees together the two correctional facilities are also by far the largest employer in the city.
