Cordell Barker

Cordell Barker ( born September 10, 1956 in Winnipeg, Manitoba ) is a Canadian animator and commercial artist.

Life

Barker grew up in Winnipeg and took an early interest in animation. During the school year he began in 1974 as an animator at a local animation studio characteristic Perkins to work in Winnipeg. His early work included Cel Paintings including for Sesame Street as well as work in the field of advertising the film. Barker left characteristic Perkins animation three years later and worked as a graphic designer.

1982, he joined the National Film Board of Canada, which had in 1976 opened a studio in Winnipeg. His first film at the NFB in 1988, The Cat Came Back, for which he earned an Oscar nomination for Best Animated Short Film was awarded in 1989.
