Corduroy

Cord ( also Schnürlsamt, Schnürdelsamt or Manchester ) is a velvety fabric with longitudinal ribs. The origin of the word is not fully understood. Cord was initially mainly produced in Manchester.

Definition

Usually cord is according to the number of the ribs 10 cm fabric divided into:

  • Kabelcord: up to 10 ribs
  • Trenkercord (named after Luis Trenker ), Kabelcord or Breitcord: 10 to 25 ribs
  • Genuacord or Manchester: 25 to 40 ribs
  • Corduroy or Babycord: more than 40 ribs

Does the fabric "used", it is called Antikcord.

Applies cord typically used as material for jackets, jackets and pants, especially in Zunftbekleidung. The high wear resistance of the cord at work clothing based on the thick piled part that protects the joints between warp and weft threads.

Usually, Cord from 80 % to 90 % cotton and 20 % polyester and 10% in stretch corduroy from around 95 % cotton and 5 % elastane.
