Cornelia Sirch (1986 )

Cornelia Sirch ( born October 23, 1966 in Erfurt ) is a German former swimmer who took up for the GDR.

Career

At the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul swam Cornelia Sirch bronze medals in the 100 meters and 200 meters backstroke and a gold medal in the 4x100 m medley; However, in the medley relay they only came in the run-up to use.

In the swimming world championships in 1982 and 1986, she won the world title over 200 meters backstroke, where she in 1982 in Guayaquil with a new world record secured the title. The former world record time was 2:09:91 min.

1983, 1985 and 1987, she became European Champion in each case on their parade route. In 1987 she was additionally also European champion over 200 meters individual medley.

After the Games in Seoul, she ended her swimming career. Then Cornelia Sirch worked as a swimming coach at youth level first as Herrenmaßschneiderin, head of a driving school and from 1994. Since 2004 she has been employed by the Stadtwerke Erfurt GmbH baths and directs basic and advanced swimming courses.

Cornelia Sirch received in 1986 the Patriotic Order of Merit in gold and bronze in 1988.

GDR doping

Sirch trained as well Birte Weigang and Torsten Karl at coach Wolfgang Fricke at SC Turbine Erfurt. All three athletes were doped systematically under the state plan theme 14:25 and wore it health problems from it.
