Cornelis Adriaan Lobry van Troostenburg de Bruyn

Cornelis Adriaan Lobry van Troostenburg de Bruyn ( born January 1, 1857 in Leeuwarden, † July 23, 1904 in Amsterdam) was a Dutch chemist.

Life

De Bruyn studied from 1875 to 1883 Natural Sciences at the University of Leiden. There he received his doctorate in 1883 as a doctor of chemistry. Until 1896 he worked as a research assistant, first in Leiden, then in Paris and finally back in Leiden. He then took over the management of the chemical laboratory for explosives the Dutch navy and taught as Professor of Organic and Pharmaceutical Chemistry at the University of Amsterdam.

Services

  • Work on the three isomeric dinitrobenzenes
  • In 1885 he discovered the tautomerism in sugars after him and Willem Alberda van Ekenstein named Lobry -de Bruyn - Alberda -van- Ekenstein rearrangement
  • Studies on colloidal and true solutions.
  • Synthesis of hydroxylamine ( 1891) and hydrazine ( 1894)
