Cornelis of Glymes

Cornelis of glymes from Bergen ( * 1458, † 1509 ), Knight in the Order of the Golden Fleece, was a Dutch nobleman and military from the line of men Bergen op Zoom the house glymes.

Life

Cornelis took on Burgundian side at the Battle of Nancy (1477 ) and the Battle of Guinegate ( 1479 ) part. He was commander of Grave, a neuralgic spot of the Habsburgs in the fight with the dukes of funds. In 1490 Cornelis was appointed Admiral of the Netherlands, a position he lost again the following year. At the time of his Admiral shaft he was involved in the Flemish uprising against the Roman-German King Maximilian I.. Furthermore, Cornelis was in possession of the chief glory Polsbroek and the Free glory Grevenbroek.

Family

Cornelis parents were John II of glymes, Mr. Bergen op Zoom, and Margaretha van Rouveroy. From his marriage with Maria Margaretha van Zevenbergen following children came from:

  • Margaret of glyme (1481-1551), wife of Floris of Egmond.
  • Mary of glymes of Bergen (1490-1566), wife of Louis of Ligne.
  • Maximilian of glymes of Bergen ( 1490-1522 ).
  • Leonhard von glymes († 1523).
  • Cornelis of glyme (1490-1560) Bishop of Liège from 1538 to 1544.

From an illegitimate connection came a daughter, Gertrude ( d) of Bergen ( 1510-1541 ).
