Cornelis Speelman

Cornelis Speelman (* March 2, 1628; † January 11, 1684 in Batavia ) was 1681-1684 Governor General of the Dutch East Indies.

At age 16, he went on board the " Hillegersberg " to India. In the service of the Dutch East India Company, he became an assistant and in 1645 he came to Batavia (now Jakarta ).

On October 29, 1680, he was appointed Governor-General of the Dutch East Indies and the items came in on November 25, 1681. During his tenure, the Sultanate of Ternate was conquered. On January 11, 1684 he died in the castle of Batavia.
